Thresholds was first taught at the Juvenile Detention Center in Lima in 2002. Since then, we have taught over 600 boys and girls with a 98% graduation rate. Because of the rapid turnover of the residents we hold four sessions over a weekend. Classes include both 1 on 1 and group sessions, and a Guide has been adapted for use with teenagers. James Swiggettt, the J.D.C. Program Director, has contributed greatly to the program’s success.
Thresholds teachers are asked to have prior experience in adult facilities. Teachers at the JDC must also undergo a criminal background check, and obtain a child abuse clearance before being permitted to work in the facility.
